The Simpson baseball team swept the Central Dutch in a doubleheader Tuesday by taking game one 14-4 in eight innings and 14-6 in game two. The Storm were fueled by three extra-base hits from Tijmen Nagel and two five-run innings in game one, with 13 hits and capitalizing on seven Central errors in game two.

In game one, the Dutch jumped in front in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. It didn’t take long for Simpson to take the lead and run with it in a five-run second inning, highlighted by Nagel’s three-RBI double. Central went into the top of the fifth down 7-1 but got two back with a Bryer Wiley two-RBI base hit. Despite, scoring the Dutch couldn’t stop the Storm from scoring. A pair of sacrifice flies, a Nagel solo home run and a Drew Carlson triple led the Storm to the 14-4 mercy-rule win.

Simpson carried the momentum from the game one win into the next game immediately. The Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first including a two-RBI single from Nate Cagley. Simpson repeated that three-run inning in the second with a Nagel home run. Central clawed back in the fifth to cut the lead from 7-0 to 7-6 by drawing a handful of the 16 free bases the Storm issued throughout the game. After the rough inning from the Storm, they slammed the door on the Dutch by scoring seven unanswered totaling 14 runs and 13 hits for the 14-6 win.

The Storm head to Luther Friday for the beginning of a three-game series between the conference’s top two teams, while Central hosts Dubuque.
