The Norwalk boys wrestlers make a bid for State Duals tonight, while the Warrior basketball teams travel to Dallas Center-Grimes for a big showdown with the Mustangs.
WRESTLING
The Norwalk wrestling team will be in Carlisle for Class 3A Regional Duals. The 11th-ranked Warriors, who enter the meet at 21-4 overall, will face No. 9 Ankeny at 6:00 p.m. The winner advances to the regional final against No. 8 Carlisle with a trip to the State Dual Tournament on the line. State Duals will be held Saturday at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
BASKETBALL
The Norwalk basketball teams will both be looking to tarnish DC-G’s undefeated records in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The girls game starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:30.
The Class 4A sixth-ranked Warrior girls suffered their only loss of the season to DC-G, 53-48, on January 7 in Norwalk. Outscored 24-2 during one stretch, the Warriors cut a 17-point deficit down to two points but could not get over the hump. They can force a first-place tie in the Little Hawkeye standings tonight. Norwalk is 17-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play. The fifth-ranked Mustangs are 14-3 and 8-0, respectively.
Norwalk girls coach Joe Sigrist tells KNIA Sports that the Warriors have shown great improvement against zone and junk defenses since the last time they played DC-G. He believes the team is better equipped now to have a response for any defense they might face.
The Norwalk boys are hoping to build off two home wins last week as they head to DC-G with a record of 8-7 overall and 6-3 in the LHC. The Mustangs, who are 10-5 and 8-0, won the first meeting 49-47 in a game that was close throughout.
Tonight’s contests will be streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at 5:45.
