The Pella Christian tennis teams each picked up victories over Grinnell on Monday, while the girls soccer squad was also victorious on the road at Knoxville.

The Eagles boys tennis squad defeated Grinnell 8-3 in their home opener, while the girls team swept the Tigers 11-0 in their first road match of the spring. On Eagle Lane, the Pella Christian boys picked up four wins in each of the singles and doubles matches. Securing the singles wins for the Eagles were Kirby Van Wyngarden at #3 (5-7, 7-6, 1-0), Rhett Terpstra at #4 (6-2, 6-7, 1-0), Evan Tschetter at #5 (7-6, 6-0), and Jonathan Van Gorp at #6 (6-2, 3-6, 1-0). The Eagles doubles wins came from Rob Schreur and Terpstra at #2 (6-2, 6-1), Tschetter and Liam Zula at #3 (6-2, 7-6), Van Gorp and Jayden Lee at #5 (6-1, 6-7, 1-0), and Landon Van Wyk and Gerrit Vande Zande at #6 (6-7, 6-2, 1-0). In Grinnell, the Eagle girls swept the singles matches, with wins coming Reagan DeVries at #1 (6-4, 7-5), Ava Breems at #2 (6-1, 6-2), Addie Van Arendonk at #3 (6-0, 6-0), Lexi Branderhorst at #4 (6-4, 7-5), Renae Van Wyk at #5 (6-3, 6-2), and Kate Braafhart at #6 (6-2, 6-0). In the five doubles matches, DeVries and Breems won at #1 (6-1, 6-1), Van Arendonk and Branderhorst won at #2 (6-2, 7-6), and Van Wyk and Braafhart won at #3 (6-1, 6-2), Trinley Gibson and Nora Van Arendonk won at #4 (6-1, 6-0), and Ali Pleima and Elsa Breems won at #5 (6-2, 7-5).

In Knoxville, the Pella Christian girls soccer team dominated the time of possession en route to a 7-1 win, to open the season 3-0 for the first time since 2019. The Eagles recorded 32 shots in the contest, with 21 of those shots being on goal, while also limiting the Panthers to just two shots and one shot on goal in the game. Leading the way for Pella Christian in the victory was Lexi Terpstra, who recorded a double hat-trick with six of the team’s seven goals on the night. Esther Ford added the other goal in the game for the Eagles, while Maddie DeVries filled in at goalkeeper for an injured Julianne Van Gorp and recorded a save on her lone attempt on the night.

The Pella Christian girls soccer team is set to be back in action tonight at home against Newton at 5:30 pm, while both tennis squads are off until Thursday when they compete against Dallas Center-Grimes.
