The woman who has sculpted the Iowa State Butter Cow for the past 19 years has been added to the United Way of Jasper County’s free “Voices of Inspiration” series. Sarah Pratt will share the history of the Iowa State Fair Butter Cow, how she took over sculpting it every year, and what it’s like to work with butter as a sculptor. United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Jessica Lowe Vokes expects Pratt’s November 13th talk at the Newton DMACC Campus Auditorium will draw a large audience.
“People have really said ‘Oh my gosh, the butter cow lady is coming.’ She was so sweet on the phone and wonderful to talk to, so I know it’s going to be a really great program.”
Vokes says Pratt also sculpted a butter cow for the Smithsonian as part of an exhibit about state fairs. All five “Voices of Inspiration” speakers this fall will start their talks at 6:30 p.m., with doors to the Newton DMACC Auditorium opening for first-come-first-served seating at 6:00 p.m. The series starts on Thursday, September 11th with William Pack, magician and author of a book about Harry Houdini.
