The Monroe Fire Department has used grant money from Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack and Hotel to assist with the purchase of four new self-contained breathing apparatuses. The Department is now fully equipped with an adequate number of so-called SCBA’s. Prairie Meadows awarded the Monroe Fire Department a $32,1000 Community Betterment Grant. A self-contained breathing apparatus provides breathable air when firefighters are in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health.
