The Pella girls track and field team was without many of their Drake Relays qualifiers but still placed 2nd in a lightning-shortened Newton co-ed track and field meet on Thursday. The Dutch scored 90 points in 14 events before thunderstorms prompted an early exit of H.A. Lynn Stadium. Pella went 1-2 in the 800 meters with Lizzy Vande Voort (2:19.43) and Bryn Paulsen (2:24.8), and the 4×200 relay of Abby Melvin, Hailey DeVries, Kamry Trine, and Lizzie Neumann won their event with a 1:45.92 race. It was a strong doubles performance for the Pella boys tennis team that allowed them to hang on against conference foe Norwalk in a 6-5 victory at home on Thursday. The Dutch won four of their five doubles matches to ultimately earn the overall matchup victory. Trevin Sutton and Brayden Van Horn had singles wins in the effort. Pella will host a meet this Saturday with Waverly-Shell Rock and Newton.


The Pella Girls Golf Team placed 2nd out of 14 teams on Thursday night at the Oskaloosa Invite. The Dutch shot a score of 364 and were led by Harper Phillips, who carded an 85, placing 7th out of almost 90 girls. Other leading scorers for the Dutch were Moriah Reynolds (90, 11th Place), Carlyn Henry (91, 17th), and Izzy Branderhorst (98, 29th). After the first 5 meets of the season Lady Dutch’s record is 22-4.

Pella’s boys golf team was 3rd out of seven schools competing at Grinnell on Thursday. The Dutch shot a 326, led by a 77 for KJ Besick, and 82 by Cole Floden, an 83 by Landon Reynolds, and an 84 by Hunter DeVries. The Dutch are back in action after an overnight stay at the West Delaware meet in Manchester today.
