The Knoxville School Board was recognized at their meeting Monday for annual School Board Recognition Month, which is recognized each year in Iowa during the month of May.
Every year, the Iowa Association of School Boards leads School Board Recognition Month (SBRM) to honor the volunteer board members who serve on Iowa’s 325 local school boards, nine area education agency boards, and 15 community college boards. These leaders serve their community and students without compensation; donate their personal time and energy to overseeing the direction of Iowa’s public education system; and positively impact Iowa by ensuring our future citizens have a quality education.
Superintendent Cassi Pearson took time at Monday’s meeting to recognize the five Knoxville School Board members for their commitment and dedication to the district through their role on the school board. Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS that being an elected official is not an easy job and that Knoxville is blessed with a school board who has strong dedication to education.
“They are very invested, they spend a lot of time, and they have a heart for kids and we really appreciate that. We are very fortunate that Knoxville has had great school boards over the years and this one is definitely at the top of the list too.”
Knoxville School Board members include Monica Sullivan, Dylan Mick, Brian Slykhuis, Jyl DeJong, and Erika Pleggenkuhle.
