A Knoxville man has been arrested for several felony drug charges and felony domestic assault.
According to court records, on Tuesday, May 12th, a Knoxville police officer conducted a traffic stop for a defective registration plate lamp. The officer made contact with the female driver and her male passenger, identified as 42-year-old Zachary Jones. The criminal complaint states it was discovered that Jones had multiple warrants through Marion County, and the officer observed a firearm in the female’s purse through the open door after placing the defendant under arrest. The female allegedly admitted that there was also a THC vape in her purse in which the officer located.
Court records state that when the officer asked Jones if there was anything else on his person that was not located in the search incident to arrest and he was advised that if there was and he took it into the jail, it would be an additional charge. Jones advised that there was not, and after getting the defendant to the Marion County Jail, a Marion County Jailer advised the officer that he located what he believed to be drugs folded in a piece of paper in the defendant’s wallet. A white powder-like substance in the folded piece of paper field tested positive for methamphetamine as well as fentanyl.
Jones had an outstanding warrant for a domestic assault incident in early March, where he allegedly grabbed a victim by the throat and started choking them before pushing them over a kitchen counter. Jones is charged with domestic assault, impeding air flow causing bodily injury, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, and possession of contraband in a correctional facility, all Class D felonies.
