The Indianola City Council discussed the city’s Traffic Impact Study Policy at their regular meeting earlier this week. Traffic Impact Study is an analysis that shows how a new development will surround the transportation network. Indianola City Manager Jake Meshke says the city is looking for more consistency in the proposal.
“The city has previously used traffic impact studies for certain developments. However, this proposed policy would establish a more consistent and standardized approach across developments going forward. The proposed policy establishes that when a traffic impact study is required for new developments and outlines what those studies must evaluate. Traffic Impact Study would be required for any project generating 100 or more peak hour vehicle trips for high impact land uses like big box stores or when the public works director at their discretion determines that a development may significantly affect traffic flow or safety.”
