A GoFundMe fundraiser is underway to repair the Jasper County Historical Museum’s 103-year-old Steam Engine. The century-old piece of farming equipment is currently at Capital City Boiler Works in Des Moines, awaiting repairs to its boiler. Bryan Healy, whose family purchased the Steam Engine back in 1936 and has been operating it for the Jasper County Historical Museum, says the repair bill is $38,700. Healy adds that an anonymous donor has pledged to pay half the bill if enough donations are received to cover the other half.

“We have got a GoFundMe campaign started. It’s really easy to experience on the GoFundMe website. The name of the fundraiser is “Save Historical 1923 Steam Engine.” It’s very self-explanatory once you get there.”

Healy says checks can also be sent to the Jasper County Museum.

The 1923 Steam Engine is well known throughout Jasper County, as it’s been in parades in Newton, Colfax, and Mitchellville since 1936. Hear more about the Steam Engine and the fundraiser to fix it on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
