Boys Tennis Ends Season in Substate Round 1
The Norwalk boys tennis team ended its season in Linn-Mar on Wednesday, losing to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the first round of Class 2A Substate play, 5-0.
Losing to the eventual regional runner-up, as Linn-Mar came out of the bracket, the Warriors end the 2026 season with an overall record of 7-5 and their first conference tournament championship in the Bound era. Results from Tuesday’s matchup have not yet been posted by the host.
Girls Golf Qualifies for State as a Team
The Norwalk girls golf team automatically qualified for the Class 4A state meet, winning the regional meet in Marshalltown with a score of 343 strokes.
Qualifying for the 4A state meet for the second consecutive year, the Warrior girls golf squad had an excellent outing on Wednesday, finishing 11 strokes under second-place Prairie. Individually, Norwalk had three golfers in the top ten. Evelyn Kinney placed third, shooting an 81, Addie Smith placed fifth with 83, and Hayden Clausen placed ninth with an 88. Sofia Stevens and Aubrey Heaverlo followed close behind, placing 11th and 17th, respectively.
Norwalk placed seventh in last year’s state meet. This year’s 4A session will be played next Thursday and Friday at Waverly Golf Course.
Baseball Loses in Urbandale
In a matchup rescheduled from Monday due to potential weather conditions, the Norwalk baseball team fell in another game to Urbandale on Wednesday, 14-4.
Beginning their season 0-2, the Warrior baseball squad could not control the J-Hawk offense, losing to Urbandale for the second time this week. Norwalk turns around to take on Boone today in a single game. The Torreadors have started this season 1-0 with an 8-3 win over Des Moines Christian on Tuesday, and lead the Warriors 16-14 in their series dating back to 2009. Today’s first pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Boone Memorial Park.
Softball Falls at Ankeny Centennial
The Norwalk softball team was shut out by Ankeny Centennial on Wednesday in six innings, 8-0.
Also beginning their season 0-2, the Warrior softball squad could not get the bats going on Wednesday, amassing two hits as a team from sophomore Allie Williams and senior Dani Peters. Peters now has two of the team’s four hits to start the year. Junior Hadley Michael found success in the circle, striking out five on the evening, giving her a team-high six through the first two games. Norwalk is off for the remainder of the week, resuming action on Tuesday in a single game against Interstate 35. The Roadrunners have started their season 1-0 with a win over Clarke. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Truro.
