Girls Golf Places 1st at Lamson Invite

The Norwalk girls golf team competed in the Lamson Invite hosted by Valley on Monday at the familiar Willow Creek Golf Course, placing first with a team score of 337. 

Norwalk won the 16-team invite by just one stroke over Southeast Polk, which is currently ranked second in the state. Junior Evelyn Kinney led the way again for the Warriors, placing third in the meet with a score of 78. Addie Smith followed behind in ninth place with 82 strokes. Sofia Stevens and Hayden Clausen also shot under 90, with scores of 88 and 89, respectively. Monday’s win is the third straight for Norwalk and the fourth straight placing in the top two. The Warriors will next compete on Thursday in the Oskaloosa Girls Invitational. Tee-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Edmundson Golf Course.

 

Girls Track and Field Take 2nd on Senior Night

The Norwalk girls track and field team competed in its final home meet of the season on Monday, celebrating its seniors and finishing second with 66 points.

In the three-team meet, the Warriors trailed first-place Indianola by 29 points and beat Waukee by nine. Five individuals and two relays placed first for the Warriors: 

Kinsley Stumbaugh in the 100m hurdles (17.87)

Elizabeth Evans in the 400m (1:06.19)

Piper Routh in the 400m hurdles (1:10.74)

Hannah Schmitz in the 1500m (4:57.71)

McKenzie Foster in the 3000m (12:34.54)

Distance medley relay (M. Bush, A. Kelderman, G. DeRocher, O. DeRocher)

Shuttle hurdle relay (M. Catic, K. Stoulil, L. Crick, K. Stumbaugh)

The next competition for the Warriors will be this week’s Drake Relays in Des Moines. Events begin Thursday at 8 a.m. and run through Saturday. Coverage of the Drake Relays will be available at kniakrls.com, and reports will air on KNIA and KRLS. 

 

Boys Tennis Falls to Boone

The Norwalk boys tennis team battled Boone on Monday and fell closely, 6-5.

In a meet that was rescheduled from April 2nd due to weather conditions, the Warriors lost 6-5 for the second consecutive dual. Individually, Norwalk received wins in the #1, #4, #5, and #6 spots from Wyatt Coburn, Ben Swim, Lane Juergens, and Rohan Tiedt. Coburn won in two sets while the others triumphed in three. The Warriors would not carry their success over to doubles, only winning the #5 match with the tandem of Ethan Lors and Evan Scavo in two sets. Next, Norwalk will travel to Pella to take on the winless Dutch on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Caldwell Park.
