The Pleasantville Community School District has received an inaugural Purple Star School designation.

Pleasantville was one of seven districts to receive the first Iowa Purple Star School designation for its support of military-connected students. Pleasantville was awarded the designation for its entire district, including Pleasantville Elementary, Pleasantville Junior High, and Pleasantville High School. Principal Gary Friday accepted the award for the district.

On May 2, 2025, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 275, establishing the Purple Star School Program in Iowa. Pleasantville Schools is part of the initial group of Iowa Schools that show a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.

The State of Iowa awards the Purple Star School designation to schools that show a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students. This recognition encourages schools to implement best practices that address the unique challenges these students face—especially when relocating due to a parent’s military service.
