The Indianola City Council is always looking to make the city a safer place each and every day. One of those ways of doing so is pushing their sidewalk safety plan in the 27 year fiscal budget. Indianola City Manager Jake Meshke says, it’s an issue both council and staff are looking to be better versed in.
“The city council had some excellent discussion. We recognize the value of having a safe sidewalk network throughout the community. We recognize some of the liability concerns that also arise for the city by not having our sidewalks inspected and safe. Ultimately, just coming out on the heels of a balanced budget and being very cognizant of our financial situation. The general direction from council was to wait on this a little bit, see how some legislation plays out at the capitol, and see how our financial situation is. This may be a program we look to bring back for more discussion yet this year or possibly for next year.”
The council approved the 27 fiscal year budget at last week’s city council meeting. For the full interview, click here.
