Turning in their best performance of the season, the Pella Christian boys golf team had an individual advance to the district meet on Wednesday.
Competing at the Sectionals meet at Bloomfield Country Club hosted by Davis County, the Eagles shot a team score of 333, 13 strokes better than their previous season best of 346. The Eagles team score of 333 placed them in a tie for 3rd place with Albia, but based on the fifth-best score tiebreaker, Albia bested Pella Christian by 1 stroke to advance as a team to the district meet.
The Eagles were led by a personal best performance from senior Devan Runner, who shot an 80 to finish in a tie for 2nd place among players not already advancing with their team, advancing him to play in the District Meet on Monday. Devan was followed closely by sophomore Kade Geetings, who recorded his career best meet score of 81. Sophomores Levi Fransman and Lewis Menninga rounded out the varsity team scoring by shooting identical 86’s. The 86 by Lewis Menninga was also his career best in his young varsity golf career. Garrett Wielard and Trevor Vos completed the varsity lineup by shooting a 90 and a 92.
The Eagles season as a team has come to an end, but Runner will continue his postseason trek at the District meet at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Wapello on Monday.
