A Creston woman is facing a felony drug charge following a rollover accident in Indianola earlier this month.
According to court documents filed in Warren County, 60-year-old Peggy Ann Hampton of Creston is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony.
According to court documents, officers with the Indianola Police Department were dispatched at approximately 4:14 p.m. on April 17th to the area of 700 South Jefferson Way for a reported rollover crash. Upon arrival, officers observed a silver Jeep SUV overturned in the roadway after reportedly striking a utility pole.
Court records show Hampton had been removed from the vehicle by bystanders and was seated nearby. While gathering information, officers were permitted to search the vehicle for insurance documentation. During that search, officers reported finding a wooden container with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, along with a bottle containing various pills. Hampton allegedly told officers the container was used for marijuana and acknowledged she did not have a prescription for the pills. Officers also observed a THC vape device near her location.
Following an investigation, including partial field sobriety testing, Hampton was taken into custody. Court records state a search of her belongings allegedly revealed multiple baggies containing a white crystalline substance, which later field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The vape device also tested positive for THC.
According to the complaint, Hampton told law enforcement she actively uses narcotics. Records further indicate she has prior convictions for drug-related offenses, leading to the enhanced felony charge. Hampton was booked into the Warren County Jail.
