Knoxville Aviation is offering a flight scholarship for aspiring young pilots in the local community.
Knoxville Aviation started the flight scholarship last year to help those individuals interested in flying remove the initial financial burden. Eligibility requirements for the scholarship include that you must live within 35 miles of the Knoxville Airport, be aged 16-21, be medically qualified to receive a FAA 3rd class medical, and complete required flight training at Knoxville Aviation.
The scholarship is $2,500, and the funds will be applied toward private pilot license training at Knoxville Aviation. To apply, applicants will need to submit a 500-750-word essay where they describe why they deserve the scholarship and their passion for aviation and future goals. Knoxville Airport Manager Katie Shawver says this is a chance to remove a barrier for someone who has always wanted to fly.
“Aviation can be expensive to get into, so we want to remove that first barrier for someone who has always dreamed of flying or pursuing a career in aviation.”
The deadline to apply is May 31st, and the award recipient will be announced on June 5th.To apply, email the essay to knoxvilleiaairport@gmail.com.
