Boys Golf Goes For 6th Straight State Meet In Atlantic District

The Knoxville Boys Golf Squad will travel to Atlantic for the second time this season on Monday to play for a spot at the State Meet. The Panthers won the sectional held last Wednesday at Pine Knolls Country Club shooting a 300 and beating Atlantic by ten shots. The Panthers are going for their 6th straight State Meet appearance. Grant Gerdes tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Athlatic’s course is short so keeping the ball in play is key

Gerdes: “If you pull out the driver you better know it’s going down the middle or you can take some big scores. My driver the last time was a little left and right, and I hope to keep shots a little straighter and contribute a low score to the team.”

The Panthers finished runner-up to the Trojans in a deep field back on May 5th shooting a 300. Joining the Panthers and Atlantic will be Winterset Nevada, Humboldt and Des Moines Christian. The top three teams will advance to the State Meet.

Boys Soccer Hosts Central Lee In Substate Opener

The Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad will embark on the substate on Monday. The Panthers have had an up and down season and will host Central Lee at Randy Wilson Track. Knoxville enters substate play at 7-4-4 while Central Lee is 9-5 and finished 4th in the SEIA Super Conference and have two major goal scorers in Peter Seyb and Mason Sanders, who have combined for 32 of the team’s 60 goals this season. While Knoxville has 24 goals this year, the Panthers have relied on their defense and in 12 of their matches have allowed either one or no goals. The match is set to begin at 7:00 with the winners traveling to Williamsburg on May 27th.
