A Monroe woman was ordered to pay over $4,400 when she was sentenced this week, in connection with a dependent adult abuse case investigated by the Monroe Police Department. The department received a complaint against 61-year-old Brenda Sinclair in April of last year. It was alleged that from December 1– 12, 2024, Sinclair transferred $500 from a family member’s account four times without permission, while that person was in the hospital.

Monroe Police charged Sinclair with dependent adult abuse, which is a class D felony. But in a plea agreement, she pleaded guilty to a simple misdemeanor charge of 5th degree theft. Associate District Court Judge Steven Holwerda fined Sinclair $105, ordered her to pay $4,368 in pecuniary damages to the victim’s estate, and has extended a five-year No Contact Order that was issued in the case.
